Category C becomes not just another entry on a driver's license for many, but also an opportunity to step into the field of professional driving. The demand for truck drivers remains high both in Lithuania and abroad, making this category often chosen for broader career opportunities, higher salaries, or work in the transport and logistics sector.
However, before starting training, it is important to understand what vehicles the C category allows you to drive, how it differs from C1, C1E, and CE categories, and what requirements are applied to obtain these licenses. The chosen category determines not only the type of vehicle driven but also age requirements, training procedures, and future professional opportunities.
In this article, we will discuss the specifics of the C category, related categories, training and exam costs, driver requirements, and other important information worth knowing before preparing for exams.
Category C includes vehicles not classified under D1 and D categories, with a maximum permissible mass greater than 3,500 kg, designed and constructed to carry no more than 8 passengers, excluding the driver.
These vehicles can be combined with trailers with a maximum permissible mass not exceeding 750 kg.
C1 Category. C1 category includes vehicles not classified under D1 and D categories, with a maximum permissible mass greater than 3,500 kg but not exceeding 7,500 kg, designed and constructed to carry no more than 8 passengers, excluding the driver. These vehicles can be combined with trailers with a maximum permissible mass not exceeding 750 kg.
C1E Category. C1E category includes combinations of C1 category vehicles and trailers with a maximum permissible mass greater than 750 kg, as well as combinations consisting of a B category tractor and a trailer with a maximum permissible mass greater than 3,500 kg. The maximum permissible mass of these combinations must not exceed 12,000 kg.
CE Category. CE category includes combinations of C category vehicles and trailers with a maximum permissible mass greater than 750 kg.
Obtaining C, CE category licenses costs about 550 EUR. After obtaining C and CE categories, you will automatically receive C1 and C1E categories. The cost of obtaining C, CE categories includes 5 aspects listed below:
Theory and practical driving training. Unlike obtaining, for example, a B category license, C, CE category theory cannot be studied externally; attending theory courses in person or remotely is mandatory. Theory training for the C category will last about 35 academic hours, and for the CE category – about 25 academic hours.
The cost of theory lessons in driving schools is usually included in the overall cost of practical (15 academic hours) and theoretical driving training, and these lessons generally cost from 450 EUR.
The state may compensate for C, CE category training and provide additional compensations during the training period. In that case, the cost of practical and theoretical lessons would be 0 EUR.
