AM CATEGORY TESTS (AM, A, A1, A2 Category Driving Theory Tests)

For many prospective drivers, the AM category becomes the first step towards independent participation in traffic. However, this is often when the most questions arise: what vehicles are allowed to be driven, at what age can the exam be taken, what are the differences between AM, A1, A2, and A categories, and how to prepare for the theory exam so that there are no surprises at "Regitra".

Although a practical exam is not required for the AM category, the theory exam demands good knowledge of the Road Traffic Rules (KET) and an understanding of how to behave safely on the road. Therefore, merely reading the rules is usually not enough – it is important to take tests, familiarize yourself with the types of theory exam questions, and assess your readiness in advance.

In this article, we will discuss which vehicles are designated for AM, A1, A2, and A categories, what requirements apply to them, and how to effectively prepare for the theory exam using KET tests.

• Moped License. A moped is a two-wheeled motor vehicle with a maximum design speed of not less than 25 km/h and not more than 45 km/h and an engine displacement not exceeding 50 cm3 (for internal combustion engines), or a maximum useful power not exceeding 4 kW (for electric motors), or a three-wheeled motor vehicle with a maximum design speed of not less than 25 km/h and not more than 45 km/h and an engine displacement not exceeding 50 cm3 (for spark-ignition engines), a maximum useful power not exceeding 4 kW (for other types of internal combustion engines), and a maximum useful power not exceeding 4 kW (for electric motors).

• Quadricycle License. A light quadricycle is a four-wheeled motor vehicle with a mass (excluding battery packs if it is an electric motor vehicle) without load not exceeding 350 kg, a maximum design speed not exceeding 45 km/h, and an engine displacement not exceeding 50 cm3 (for spark-ignition engines), a maximum useful power not exceeding 4 kW (for other types of internal combustion engines), and a maximum nominal power not exceeding 4 kW (for electric motors).

A Category

A category includes tricycles with a power of more than 15 kW and motorcycles. With an A category driver's license, you can drive vehicles assigned to AM, A1, A2 categories without any restrictions. Motorcycle licenses can be obtained from 20 years of age and with 2 years of experience with the A2 category.

A1 Category

A1 category includes motorcycles with an engine displacement greater than 50 cm3 but not exceeding 125 cm3, power not exceeding 11 kW, and a power-to-weight ratio not exceeding 0.1 kW/kg, as well as tricycles with a power not exceeding 15 kW. A1 category can be driven from 16 years of age.

A2 Category

A2 category includes motorcycles with a power not exceeding 35 kW, a power-to-weight ratio not exceeding 0.2 kW/kg, and which are not derived from a vehicle more than twice as powerful. A2 category can be driven from 18 years of age.

KET Tests for AM, A, A1, A2 Category

To prepare more easily and effectively for theory exams, KET tests for AM, A, A1, A2 categories are useful. A category KET tests and questions are specifically oriented towards this category, so you will learn questions relevant to you.

KET tickets for A category consist of 30 general questions, such as driver duties, stopping and parking, understanding road situations, etc., and 5 specific category questions, such as maximum allowable driving speed, most effective braking methods, ensuring better visibility when riding a motorcycle at night.
